Tom Taylor Place is a three-storey 51,500 S.F. apartment building which accommodates 50 residential units.
Focusing on building orientation, passive solar approach and thermal performance of the building envelope combined with an efficient mechanical system was the initial design task. The building has been certified with LEED Gold with projected energy savings of 56% compared to the required national energy model.
Provisions for fully barrier free units as well as hearing and visually impaired future tenants have been incorporated into the design strategy. The building form and articulation were developed to reflect the adjacent single family home neighbourhood and create a sympathetic townhouse-like form rather than an "apartment building box".
